Welcome to Heart of Bronze, the blognovel by Michael J. Rigg.

Heart of Bronze is groundbreaking for several reasons. Not only am I going back to my blognovel roots (Bronze has a handful of characters but no outline and no predetermined ‘ending’), but I’m also experimenting in two completely new genres: Steam Punk and Romance. While Bronze will still have the tone my fans have enjoyed in the past, along with some familiar thriller or sci-fi elements, the overall feel should be that of an alternate reality where everything is familiar but still somehow ‘not quite right.’

I’m also upping the stakes with the format. Like James Patterson’s crime novels, I’m going to alternate between the first person perspective of my heroine and the third person perspective of those around her. The reason is as simple as the time and place of this story. “Irish” is a stranger here, as is the reader. Through her eyes you will see the world the way you would see it in her shoes. In alternating chapters you will see the world the way those who live in it see it.

Heart of Bronze is my third blognovel. My first, August Winter, was written as an experiment. Is it possible to write an entire novel as a blog? And will it be popular as a “published first draft?” The answer to those questions turned out to be “yes” and “that depends on what you mean by popular.” August Winter received enough feedback that I stuck with it to the end. It began without an outline. It began without characters. It began with only the smallest inkling of a premise. I hope to re-release it soon in a downloadable PDF format.

An Angel for Sara Dawn was my second blognovel. It had a few more things going for it out of the box. It had an outline and characters ready to go. Still, as a blognovel, several things changed along the way. Sara Dawn sits on my writing desk held down by a red pen. One of these days I plan to edit and re-write it, then publish it as an audio podcast novel. One of these days.

Have fun on the journey here. A new chapter of Heart of Bronze will be ‘published’ every Wednesday on this site until “The End.” You should be able to use the chapter jump feature built into this WordPress format to go to the place you left off. I’ll be posting in reverse-time so that the earliest chapters are at the top of the thread. That way newcomers won’t be ‘spoiled’ by reading the most recent posts first. I may do it a different way, something that works better. Like the book itself, it’s an ongoing experiment, so please stay tuned.
